SOMETHING GOOD FOR EACH DAY
Yoga: A Gift
It has given me something for each day of my life. Strength when weak, balance when wobbly, humbling when strong and rewarding when I least expect.
My First Teachers
My Grandma first taught me classical hatha yoga in my twenties to combat anxiety. She encouraged and watched me practice twice a day. For many years I religiously practiced yoga morning and night. After a few years into my own practice that I started going to an Iyengar class run by a lady called Molly Watterson in North Cheshire. After Molly retired I attended Julie Brown's classes; a well respected Manchester Iyengar Institute teacher who is responsible for teaching student teachers.
Iyengar and Ashtanga - Yin and Yang
As my interest in yoga grew and I began to experiment more. In addition to my Iyengar practice I started doing Ashtanga. I became more interested in the flow of the posture and working with the breath.
New Global Influences
Traveling round the world gave me the opportunity to work with many different teachers all of which have taught me a great deal. I came back to the UK in 2004, qualified as a massage therapist and started teacher training with Pete Yates founder of The School of Heart Yoga and then Chairman of the Independent Yoga Network (IYN). Pete focused on Raja Yoga and the sacred texts, which sparked my interest in meditation both active and passive. Robert Griffiths was my regular teacher week to week during this time. He was both Iyengar and Ashtanga trained and did a dynamic flow style of yoga. It had the flow and focus on the breath like Ashtanga and the precision of Iyengar.
New Birth and Onwards
I qualified as a British Wheel of Yoga Teacher in 2006. The arrival of first child prompted me to teach pregnancy and baby yoga. My journey is a life long one and the biggest lessons I have learnt are to adapt, be flexible and grow...
Some of the workshops I have attended and teachers I have worked with include:
Ashtanga - Danny Paradise
Teaching Yoga to Children
Introduction to Ayurveda - Rosemarie Sellers
Joints, core stability and the immune system - Dr Ruth Gilmore
Introduction to shamanism - Paul Francis
Meditation classes - Kalpa Bhadra Buddhist Meditation Centre
Vedanta - Hindu philosophy
Womb Yoga - Uma Dinsmore-Tuli
