YOGA FAQs
What Do I Need To Practice Yoga?
You don't have to have anything to practice yoga. However a mat and blanket are recommended for a yoga class. A blanket will keep you warm during relaxation. A cushion or pillow and a belt can be used as aids to some postures. Wear something loose and comfortable and bring something warm such as socks and a jumper for relaxation. If you think that you may get thirsty bring a bottle of water.
When Should I Practice Yoga?
Yoga can be practiced at anytime. If it is done early in the morning, the mind and body can be recharged, ready for the day; done late at night, it can assist in helping you get a good night's sleep.
Where Should I Practice Yoga?
Yoga does not need a lot of room and so it can be practiced in many different places. Choose a place that contains enough room for all the postures to be done comfortably. It is best to choose a quiet, clean place. Some people enjoy practicing yoga outdoors. This has the added advantage of outside air and a closer connection to nature.
How Long Should I Practice For?
The length of your practice session will depend largely on the amount of time you wish to devote to yoga. Ideally, yoga should be done every day and should include at least 15 minutes of exercise and 15 minutes of breathing and meditation. A typical class will last from one hour to two hours and may contain a combination of postures, relaxation and meditation.
Should I Drink Or Eat Before A Yoga Class?
Yoga is best done on an empty stomach. If possible, do not eat anything for two hours before your yoga workout. If you find this makes you too hungry, then avoid a big meal for two hours before the workout and have a small snack (like a piece of fruit) an hour before the yoga workout. Drink a glass of water about fifteen minutes before the yoga sessions.
